The Republic is an homage to every man and women of
masnou who commited to defend the Second Republic and the values that
support the Catalan republican ideology:
The
Catalan identity is embodied in the four large columns that compose
this cor-ten steel sculpture. These are raised proud and firm, like
the Catalan identity, yet slightly wavy and turbulent, indicating the
multiple difficulties that the Catalan nation and has had and still
has to face.
The democratic
and renovating values of the Second Republic are represented by the
color range of the three circles that are interspersed among the four
large steel columns, following the colors of the republican flag: red,
yellow and purple.
Freedom,
equality and fraternity – the paradigmatic values of the French
Revolution – are subliminally represented by the trilogy of glass
rings.
The Republic is located in Republic Square in the town
of Masnou (Barcelona).
I
want to thank the Mayor of Masnou Eduard Gisbert and Deputy Mayor for
Planning, Enric Folch, the trust they placed on my project. I also am
grateful to Jaume Vidal (of Vidal Metal·lúrgics of Esparreguera)
and his workers, who made the effort to finish the work for Republic’s
Day. |
